Model 802
UV Fluorescence SO2 Analyzer

Principle of Operation

A filtered UV light enters the fluorescence chamber and excites the SO2 molecules of the sample gas. As the excited SO2 molecules decay to lower energy states they emit UV light at a longer wavelength. The light emitted by the excited SO2 molecules is detected by a photomultiplier (PMT) after passing through a black glass optical filter allowing light at 350nm to pass. According to Beer-Lambert Law, the intensity emitted UV light is proportional to concentration of SO2. Therefore, the concentration of the SO2 in the fluorescence chamber can be deducted from the emitted UV light detected by the PMT.
